Search Engine Statistics

Who gets the bulk of searches?  See for yourself.  Nobody has been able to gain ground on Google in the last couple of years and I doubt they will anytime soon.  Looks like Yahoo! lost a little ground to Bing but that won’t last long as people are finding out fast that Bing sucks.

Google’s Nexus One

Looks like our friends at Google is breaking out another phone. The Nexus One received blessings from the FCC and is on it’s way to your pocket.  The up-side is that Google has a reputation for coming out with great stuff but continuing work on it, listening to their client base, and turning the great stuff into amazing tools. The down-side is that Google doesn’t seem to have plans to partner with a carrier on this one, so, prices for this gem will probably be in the $1,000 range.  This is normal in many countries but something that we in the U.S. are going to have to get used to.  This may have some up-side to it too though.  When we get used to purchasing our phones outside of our service contracts, carriers who provide horrible customer service like ATT, will be forced to step up to the plate with no phone deals to lock people into longterm contracts.

Sacrifice: It’s Worth It.

I often see people adding too many things into their schedule or list of priorities.  Sometimes it’s the family that simply adsabraham sacrifice imageanother youth activity to the car pooling frenzy that stresses mom out.  Other times it’s the company that learns of a great idea and ads it to the list of tasks and practices that are filling their employees schedules.  For all of us it’s the simplest things that give us trouble with sacrifice, like what or how much to eat, or what show to watch on tv.

Don’t Compromise.

Compromise.  You WILL be asked to do it.  Today.  The word sounds like a good, “touchy feely” thing to do.  However, more often than not, compromising can be harmful.  We’re taught as children to compromise in situations such as sharing our toys and compromising some of the fun we’d have with a toy in order to allow someone else time with the toy.  In turn they might let us play with their stuff some time.  Very soon though, life begins asking us to make less neutral compromises.  In most cases it means allowing small doses of harm come into our families, our workplaces, or lives in order to temporarily experience pleasure, praise, or success.

Perpetual 1-UPPing On Social Media

Are you posting to social media just to show off the events you get to go to, or who you’re getting to hang with?  If so, you may be alienating your followers or potential customers.

What? No Long Term Contract?

I had a client say to me recently, as we were in the process of signing contracts: “It’s really crazy that you don’t hold peoplecontract to longer terms on your contracts, you know.  Everything people sign up for has a 3,6, or even 12 month contract, so I’d be fine with that if you need to do that.”

Though he was appreciative of my company’s policy of month-to-month contracts, he didn’t understand why we would do such a thing.  It gave no benefit to us. After all, isn’t that why most companies do long term contracts?  To hold their customers in with “golden handcuffs” whether happy or not with the service they’re being provided with.

Specializing In Everything

I joined a group of business people for a networking group recently when I witnessed what sad occurrence.  We had come to the time in the networking meeting for introductions.  This is a time that many networking formats have when one by one each person takes a turn introducing themselves, the organization they represent, and what service or product they provide and what the ideal customer would be for them.  I was enjoying this time and learning about what each person’s areas of specialization were when a young man stood up and said something that made me want to cry for him.

Art Of The Elevator Speach

You’ve probably heard of this before but I want to clear it up in case you haven’t or are confused with what this means.Naked-elevator-speech-photo

Every business professional needs their elevator speech.  The best elevator speeches have two parts.  Both parts are often used in conversation but on some occasions only one might be asked.  I’ll explain and give a correct and poor example of each using myself as an example.
